This Week's Songs

It Is Winter
(Tune: "If You're Happy And You Know It")
It is winter
and it's time to ride a sled!
It is winter
and it's time to ride a sled!
It is winter
that's the season!
We don't need
a better reason!
It is winter
and it's time to ride a sled!

The Winter Song
(Tune: Farmer in the Dell)
Let's sing a winter song,
Let's sing a winter song,
The days are short, the nights are long.
Let's sing a winter song.
The winter wind is cold,
The winter wind is cold,
It freezes noses, ears, and toes.
The winter wind is cold.
Winter now is here,
Winter now is here,
Put on your coat, your hat, your gloves, Winter now is here.

A New Song for the Month!

Here is a song that we will be teaching the children for the month of November.

(Use the lyrics to the tune “I’ve been working on the railroad”)

I've been helping in the classroom
I’ve been helping in the classroom every single day
I’ve been helping in the classroom in lots of different ways
I’ve been helping everybody when I come to school
Being such a happy helper is very very good

Making Caramel Apples in October!

Above is a picture of one of our many fall activities we did around exploring apples.  Thank you parents for bringing in apples as requested.  The children were able to sort them, count them and talk about the many varieties.

Early Literacy: Alphabet Knowledge

Hands on fun!

“A” is for Alligator!

“Learning to visually discriminate one letter from another takes time and practice.  Children learn to analyze each letter into features such as horizontal, vertical, and diagonal line segments and arcs and their different orientations.” Source: Comprehensive Literacy Resource for Preschool Teachers”

Song: I'm A Nut! (The Importance of Singing)

We've been singing this song with Principal Shelley!  If you are wondering why the children are clicking their tongues and knocking on their heads, it's because of this traditional song!  A link to a Scholastic article is listed below the lyrics that explains the importance of singing with children.

I'm an acorn, small and round
Lying on the cold, cold ground
Everyone steps on me
That is why I'm cracked you see
I'm a nut!(Click, click with tongue)
I'm a nut!
I'm a nut!
I'm a nut!

Math - Sorting

Building a complex mathematical foundation begins in the early childhood years.  Classifying and sorting objects are the major part of the foundation.  These important skills help children to begin to observe how things are alike and different, an awareness that is essential to early math learning.
Sorting can take months to master.  We plan activities which give children the opportunity to sort, classify, and order objects by color, size, shape, and a variety of other attributes.  It is important that children have plenty of practice developing this skill.

Welcome!

Welcome to the Preschool Classroom Blog!

Thank you for your patience as we researched how to set up a classroom blog.  We are very excited about sharing with you what happens in our classroom and other information we think you will find interesting.

Please be aware that blogging is very new to us.  We will do our best to update the blog at least once a week.  We will post more often as we become familiar with this new venture!
